The 6 to 9 inch half-log siding is installed with no nails on the exterior surface, and corners can be either vertical or by-pass. The wood is kiln dried, so there is not as much shrinkage or movement that is common with full-log homes.
Unlike full-log construction, half-log siding provides the log look on the outside, but with the warmth, energy efficiency and convenience of a standard interior wall. This allows the use of higher R-value insulation within the exterior and interior walls, the ability to run all wiring and plumbing inside the walls and the use of drywall or wood paneling such as end-matched pine or cedar on the interior of the home.
Today many people want their homes to reflect the environment in which they are built. For homes that are in wooded, lakeside or rural areas, or when a rustic look is desired, many are choosing to use half-log cedar or pine siding.
